Amreli, June 28 (ANI): Flash floods caused by heavy rains killed many wild animals, including two Asiatic lions, in forest region of Gujarat. Carcasses of lions were found in Amreli and Bhavnagar districts of Gir forest, taking the big cats' death toll from the natural calamity in the region to eight. Other wild animals were also found dead on the bank of Shetrunji River, which flows alongside the Gir wildlife sanctuary. A senior forest official, AC Pant, said teams have been sent out to ascertain the extent of damage. Asiatic lions -- different from African lions, with a characteristic skin fold on their bellies and thinner manes on the males – are endangered animals found mostly in Gir wildlife sanctuary.
